Black Sea; Forsaken Paths

Be among the first travelers on a brand new and truly authentic tour with the Cepni community in the Pontic Range. Follow the path from the Black Sea shores near Trabzon to the high pastures at Kadirga mountain.

Based on a documentary called “Forsaken Paths” that tells the story of a distinctive Oguz tribe whose members still keep their culture alive. This trip will bring you to very close contact with them; sharing their life in their homes, working, cooking and eating with them both in the village and high pastures called “yayla”.

The two-day walk starts from the village and covers 20 kilometers up the and down the hills and valleys to reach the mountain pasture located at2,300 meters. Cows are dressed with colorful talismanic tassels accompanying the chime of cowbells, and the girls put on their most elegant traditional costumes.

Forsaken Paths ends at the remote Kadirga festival where thousands of people from various ethnic backgrounds meet on a mountaintop to feast and dance all day to the manic tunes of the kemençe, drum and the pipe.
